Happy Dads Elton John and David Furnish have sneaked off to their home in France for a little holiday in St. Tropez. Naturally, the dads brought along their beautiful baby boy Zachary Jackson Levon as well as a few friends to enjoy the spoils of their massive wealth. As I mentioned earlier, David and I met up with a group of friends yesterday to see a new film that you may not have heard about titled Another Earth. For the past week or so, David has been trying to get me to see this film but because I hadn’t heard a thing about it (at all), I wasn’t all that excited to see it. To be honest, I got talked into seeing this movie yesterday … and boy, am I glad that I went. I’m rarely 100% impressed with movies but I have to say … this one comes close. Another Earth is truly an inventive film that is well written, well acted and not at all what you might expect.

Briefly, Another Earth tells the tale of the strange occurrence of a duplicate planet Earth showing up in our orbit and the circumstances that grow out of that phenomenon. You might think this is a sci fi film or that the focal point of the story would revolve around this Earth 2 … but no. The main focus of the film is about a young girl who accidentally (while drunk driving) ruins a man’s life by killing his family and the pain she goes thru trying to right the wrong. When I tell you that the story in Another Earth is compelling, I am not kidding … it’s a gripping and sad tale that gets really tragic. The lead actress Brit Marling (who also co-wrote the script) and lead actor William Mapother (Tom Cruise‘s cousin) are nothing short of spectacular in this film. The complicated way their lives intertwine as the story unfolds is just … beautiful. While I personally feel there are minor plot points that are problematic, I really wouldn’t say there is anything wrong with this film. Another Earth surprised and impressed the HELL out of me. The indie film is in limited release so I’m hoping it will do well enough to open wide in more markets. Trust me, this is a great film that you will be very surprised by. I really, really loved it.

Last night David and I made our way out to Echo Park to celebrate our friend Margaret‘s birthday. The night started out with a pizza party at Masa of Echo Park and then finished out at Margaret and Chris’s place nearby. The food was to die … TO DIE. The afterparty was superfun. Margaret and Chris were locked in an epic battle of wills where only one would emerge victorious … it was quite the spirited game of Jenga, y’all.

Sadly for Mags, she lost the Jenga battle … but she put up a valiant effort. As the night turned into morning, folks started dropping like flies … including the birthday girl herself:

Yesterday was a bizzy day for David and me. We decided to go car shopping in the late afternoon and then met up with our friends Tam and Rob for a late dinner in West Hollywood. I think we made a decision on the car but … not sure yet. As for our hang session last night, it was a blast. We hadn’t seen Rob and Tam for some time and it’s been even longer since we got to hang out with them alone so … we had fun.

Because David and I both love his Cadillac I think we’re gonna go with another Caddy for me. So … I’ll let you know. Dinner with Rob and Tam was a blast. We got to catch up with them and each got to share good news. ‘Twas very fun. We dined on the roof of the London Hotel with a fantastic view of LA. So fun.

Tonight, David and I will be heading out to see our friend Tom Lenk perform his one man show Nerdgasm. I’ve been looking forward to seeing this show for a while so … again, I’m excited. Have a Happy Thursday, y’all!

Last night David and I met up with Emma and Josh at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, CA to see my beloved Detroit Tigers take on the Angels in the second game of their 3 game series. While the Tigers lost 1-0, the game was really a good one … and if it wasn’t for that teeny, tiny point it would’ve been a much better game ;) We had a total blast tho. Check out some of our fun pics below.

Last night was my first visit to Angels Stadium and I have to tell you, I loved it entirely. Everyone is so friendly there. Sometimes, opposing team fans are treated poorly at games like this and while I’m sure that does happen even at Angels Stadium, I saw no sign of malice at all. Angels fans are a class act and I am really looking forward to attending another game there soon.

Tonight, David and I are heading back to Anaheim, CA to see New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys in concert at the Honda Center. I’ve never seen NKOTB before so I figured, what the Hell. I hear the show is very fun so I’m excited. Any NKOTBSBers out there? Will I see you at the concert tonight?

Late yesterday afternoon, David and I met up with our dear friend Gillian and a group of new friends at the Cat and Fiddle Pub in Hollywood to hang out, share stories and break bread together. Altho it was a pretty hot day, we managed to enjoy the beautiful SoCal weather in the cool shade.The rest of the day was pretty low key … so it was basically the perfect lazy Summer day.

The Cat & Fiddle Pub is one of the first places I visited on my first visit to LA all those years ago and I always forget what a great place it is. The atmosphere is so relaxed. Unfortch the location isn’t the best which means that parking is a nightmare but I was reminded yesterday how much I love that place :)

As I mentioned, the rest of the day was pretty quiet … David and I just hung out at home. I love how you can literally feel things slowing down as we settle into Summer. This weekend, especially, will be a lazy one … the 4th of July holiday weekend should be a fun, quiet 4 days. I hope all y’all have a fun weekend! Enjoy it!! Happy Friday!

True Blood Season 4 Opener Scores Record Ratings

The new season of “True Blood” kicked off this past Sunday (June 26) and it seems they’re still on top of their game.

According to a report, the season premiere nabbed 5.4 million viewers to match its own record that was established with the Season 3 closer.

Additionally, the network played an encore performance of the episode, scoring yet another 1 million viewers on opening night.

Last night, against my personal wishes, I went to a showing of Bad Teacher with Darion, Josh and David and, I’m actually surprised to say, it was actually a pretty fun night. Bad Teacher is nowhere near the best movie of the year and, to be honest, I wouldn’t even call it a great movie … but it’s pretty good and much better than I was expecting. For the most part, the film was pretty predictable but, try as I might, I couldn’t resist laughing out loud once or twice. Bad Teacher wasn’t a good movie, necessarily … but it also isn’t a terrible movie.

I was really surprised by how much I liked Cameron Diaz in this flick. I can’t say that I’m a big fan of most of her movies but she really holds her own as the lead in Bad Teacher. Her comic timing could use a bit of work but all in all … she wasn’t bad. Justin Timberlake, on the other hand, was pretty terrible. His character was pretty crappy and that’s a large part of why I disliked him in the film but even more importantly, I just don’t find him funny. He tries, bless his heart but … no, he’s not good in this film. Jason Segel, I’m sorry to say, was pretty forgettable. I was hoping his character would turn out better than it did but, alas … it did not. Instead the break-out star is Lucy Punch who plays Amy Squirrel. Her character was irritating as the “villain” but Punch played her perfectly. Again, I wasn’t really wowed at all by Bad Teacher but as far as a fun night out at the movies with friends … it was suitable.

Tonight, David and I will be meeting up with our friends Darion and Woody at the Staples Center to see Rihanna in concert! Tonight should be a blast … cannot wait!! Happy Tuesday!
